Description
In the first days porcupines had no quills. But one day a porcupine noticed how the thorns of the hawthorn tree pricked him, so he broke off some of its branches and used clay to attach them to his back so he would be safe from Bear and Wolf, and ever since then quills have become part of a porcupine's skin. Sun Woman climbed up a tree to capture a porcupine, but the tree grew as she climbed it until it and she emerged into the upper world of the Sun.
