Description
Bureau of Indian Affairs, Hon. T.J. Morgan
In 1856, the Seminole signed a treaty with the Creek Nation and the United States to establish the Seminole Nation. In 1866, 200,000 acres were granted to the Seminole Nation from the Creek Nation, but in 1888 an additional 25,000 acres were granted to them because members of the Seminole Nation had lived upon and improved these acres. The 1866 survey line was used for both land transactions; it was not resurveyed for the 1866 grant.
